Regarding the iPad
My life at this point is basically a nonstop firehose of Skype calls, delicious links, SSH logins, and googlefests culminating in presentations in strange office parks. I live in the cloud. My music, my photos, my todo lists, my notes, my travel arrangements, my Christmas list, and my pants size are just chilling out there in a distributed fluff of XML. So, yeah, on that level the iPad with a copy of Keynote for presenting and a bluetooth keyboard for server wrangling sounds like the best thing since ever.
On the other hand, I strongly believe that people who write paragraphs like the one I just wrote should be punched in the junk, over and over, until they buy potable water for a village somewhere.
So, conflicted.

Thanks for the reminder.
Interesting take. Have you ever visited http://globalrichlist.com/? I think it's safe to assume we're all a whole lot closer to the top of global economic prosperity than we'd like to believe.
With 2/3 of this planet's population living on less than $2/day forgoing a few toys could change someone's life.
Thanks for the reminder.
The biggest issue with the
The biggest issue with the iPad is it's closeness , this phrase resumes very well the problem "Once we replace the personal computer with a closed-platform device such as the iPad, we replace freedom, choice and the free market with oppression, censorship and monopoly."
I think it's dangerous that comfort it's becoming a more important factor than openness, there is one step from closed devices to closed content access and scenarios like this http://i.imgur.com/K6WwJ.jpg
conflicted.
Jeff, maybe you’d feel less conflicted if your life weren’t a nonstop firehose?
Adjectives
I was conflicted until I watched this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZS8HqOGTbA
It's a 3 minute clip of the keynote with only the adjectives they said. It was a nice reminder that Apple is drinking way too much of their own Koolaid with this one.
No Innovation
Apple is not creating anything new here.... Seriously.

Nothing new

Apple has flirted with a notebook-sized tablet for years. The Newton Cadillac dates from 1993. The PenLite, based off a Powerbook Duo, came three years later.
However, the idea of a touch-driven Apple product predates even these. I have a QuickTime TV ad featuring a man in a park, using an Apple II-based tablet, learning to read the newspaper.
